View Notesmgoldey Notes (2025-06-01): --DAT marked 11/29/97 AUD, but the correct date is 11/21 and this is likely the same recording as SHNID 17168 ('DSBD > DAT @48kHz'), which is incomplete. --This is the complete show, both sets. --Enjoy! --mhg :: 2025-06-01 vg NOTES (2025-06-23): --Super BIG Thanks to whomever originally recorded & shared out (Seth Briedbart?? see below) this the Greyboy Allstars 1997 show & to mgoldey for the transfer, mastering & sharing it out to the masses to enjoy. Absolutely Appreciated & sounds utterly terrific!! --the Greyboy Allstars played Wetlands Preserve 2 nights on this run (1997-11-20&21), this was the 2nd night. --Liquid Soul was the opening act; Ulu was playing in the downstairs Lounge on this night --tickets were $15.00 --1st impression of source: this recording seems to be captured with mics from the infamous "tapers' corral" at Wetlands, which was directly in the perfect sweet spot of the place right next to the sbd mix position...it may or may not have the sbd mixed into it as well (I would surmise that it does), but either way it's a beautiful recording...one can easily see why it would be mistaken for a 'DSBD' --2nd impression of source: after listening again & speaking with Scott Bernstein (who was there that night & recorded his own Neumann TLM170 source), I have now come to the almost 100% conclusion that the source for this is actually: Seth Briedbart's 'B&K 4021's w/ balls (tapers' corral, next to soundboard, sweet spot) > HHB Professional Portadat PDR-1000'. Scott said that Seth was there that night & his recordings with that setup sounded like this...it would not be the first time that Seth's recordings from this venue & this particular source & spot were mistaken for a sbd (most recently his Zero 1998-05-30 - Wetlands)...also, Scott said that it was highly unlikely that GBA gave out a sbd patch to anyone (only possible likely sbd recording would have been from the great Dave Nolan who recorded from the DJ booth onto cassettes). So, there ya go...not 1000% confirmed, but this is the source that I believe this to be...if anyone has any other thoughts or theories on this, won't you please weigh in with them?? --EXTRA NOTE ON SOURCE: while listening even more to this, as tasty as it is, it just seemed to me as if the whole thing was 'pulling to the right' a little too much to be correct...so, I opened it up in Sound Forge &, sure enough, the Right channel is ahead of the Left channel consistently throughout by about 12 to 13 samples (zoomed in fully in Sound Forge)...it also lowers its recording volume somewhere within the first tune (t02) & then somewhere before the final 2 tunes on Set 1 its balance swings wildly to favor the Left channel for the remainder...I am going to fix all these issues with a tasty remaster very soon (so keep a lookout for that), but I wanted to put this one up as well 'as is' since it has a shnid# in the etreedb & don't want to step on anyone's toes too much out of respect for the work already put in, etc. --discovered that Melvin Sparks did indeed sit in on an additional tune in Set 1 beyond the already listed ones in Set 2...even though after the tune in t05 ("Hot Pants Breakdown") they announce him & then say he's actually not coming, it seems he fully did take the stage after all as one can clearly hear his guitar on t05 ("It's Your Thing") along with Elgin's guitar --found an extra tune in t08 ("Toys R Us" was played after "I've Got Reasons") --discovered that t09 ("Wetlands announcements, intro") was actually the kickoff of Set 2, not the last track of Set 1 & therefore moved it to it's proper place in the setlist above --the announcer in t09 states that "...it's been a great 3 sets..." & he also says near the end of the track "...this is the last set..." - I feel that these things refer to the fact that it was the 2nd of 2 nights for GBA & therefore "...it's been a great 3 sets..." means Set 1&2 from 11/20 & Set 1 from this night (11/21) & so forth (i.e.they were about to play their 4th set [2 each night]). It even states on the advert "2 sets each night" --I added more detail to the band members info --corrected some song titles toward how they appear on the original albums --added more detail to the setlist info & the venue info --this venue sadly no longer exists...it opened on 1989-02-16 (New Potato Caboose performed) & officially closed on 2001-09-11 (Project Logic & an All Star cast played there the night before & there were scheduled shows throughout the rest of this 'closing week', but the world changed on the morning of 2001-09-11 just a few blocks away)...after this official closing, it was able to open for 1 final jam session on 2001-09-29 that included Robert Hunter...the venue became affectionately known by attendees as the "Sweatglands" due to how hot & sweaty it got in the place (nickname credited to John Popper of Blues Traveler) --https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wetlands_Preserve --created an md5 checksum file --added the ffp fingerprints & md5 checksums to the text file --added pics of the venue
