View NotesThis is a great audience DAT recording with a nice, full bass and a balanced sound.  Once the show gets going, the audience is very quiet and respectful.  The performance of "Cut" is especially nice.

There's one minor flaw, however.  The show was taped on a Sony portable DAT recorder, and I'm guessing it was a D7, because I'm told that particular model had a design problem:  while you were taping, turning on the display light would cause a high-pitched buzz to show up on your recording while the light was on.  In the case of this recording, the buzz only shows up in one channel, at something like 700 Hz;  the first couple songs have the buzz at varying degrees throughout -- most of the time it's pretty quiet, but at times it gets a bit louder.  After that, however, the taper turns the light off, and it only shows up occasionally when he's checking his recorder -- which is sometimes between songs, sometimes during the song, but generally only for a second or two.

This description makes it sound a lot more obnoxious than it actually is -- really, it's only noticeable during the first few songs, i.e. when it's constant.  After that, it's so sporadic that it's not a problem at all, really, and otherwise the recording is terrific -- one of the best Low audience DATs I've heard -- so don't pass up this show on account of it.  

Levels are normalized -- I don't remember whether the DAT came that way, or whether I did a non-destructive gain increase as I burned the soundfile to CD, but either way no additional gain should be needed or applied.
