Sam Roberts Band The Fillmore Detroit, Detroit, MI., USA 11/28/2009 Date of Text File: 11/08/2010 Source: Neumann KU-100>Edirol R-44>wave>CuBase>dB Poweramp>FLAC16 Location: FOH. KU-100 Mannequin Head Microphone = flown. Using right-hand rule convention, looking at the at the stage: Distance from stage (X): approximately -5m. Elevation from stage (Z): approximately = +8m. Mannequin microphone lateral location (Y): Approximate center of stage = 0. DSP: Edirol R-44, 16-bit, 44.1 kHz>wav>CuBase>wav>FLAC(16) Personnel: Sam Roberts (lead singer, guitar); Dave Nugent (lead guitar); Eric Fares (keyboard, guitar); James Hall (bass); Josh Trager (drums). FOH Engineer: Phil Hornung. Format: "Engineered For Headphone Use" - This recording is binaural due to the use of the Neumann KU-100 mannequin microphone. Because of this, headphones are strongly recommended as this will place the sound at the listener's ears as it was incident upon the manenquin microphone's ears during recording. Using headphones will also eliminate any cross-talk that may otherwise occur when played back over loudspeakers. Alternately, if loudspeakers are used for playback, better results will be obtained when seated in close proximity to the speakers, equidistant between them. However, best results and greatest spatial realism will indeed be realized when headphones are used; optimum realism will be experienced with headphones that approximate FEC (Free-air equivalent coupling) behavior as defined by Moller, Rozenn Nicole et al. Examples of these headphones include (but are not limited to) AKG Type K1000, Beyerdynamic DT 990, and the STAX SR-Lambda Electrostatic. Recorded By: Mark A. Jay, Immersifi [mark@immersifi.com], [skype: mark.a.jay] Seeded By: Mark A. Jay, Immersifi [contact info as above] Fingerprints and Checksums: FFP and MD5 data files were created using Trader's Little Helper. Track Splits: The files have been segmented into Disc I and Disc II content so that they may be written to two stand-alone CD volumes. Tracks were chosen to result in two CDs of the approximate overall length. Note that in the lists shown below, the original track numbers have been used. Thus, for Disc II, track 17 ("The Resistance") would equate to Disc II, track 01, and track 18 ("Brother Down") would equate to Disc II, track 02, and so on. However, the disc numbers and track numbers are part of the syntax of the files, that is, the file name "srb2009-11-28d01t03.ku100.headphone.flac" indicates that this is Sam Roberts Band, recorded November 28, 2009, disc 01, track 03". The other parts of the file name reflect the type of microphone used (ku-100) and the preferred playback method (headphones). CD Recommendations: Because FLAC is a fully lossless format, FLAC-format files are recommended for CD creation as the FLAC files can be fully restored to wav format before the CDs are written. The user may choose to create CDs from the other lossy formats provided herein (vbr mp3, Ogg Vorbis), however, a loss of fidelity will result as both vbr mp3 and Ogg Vorbis are lossy formats and as such, cannot be reconstructed to the original content found in the parent wav files. Consult the web for a list of programs that can read and convert FLAC-formatted files to other formats. The originator of these files used dBpoweramp to create the FLAC versions from the parent wav format files; said program can convert the FLAC files herein back to wav (or various other formats). This show was the last of the 2009 Love At the End of the World tour for Sam Roberts Band. Opening acts for this show were The Hard Lessons (first warm-up), and Sloan (second warm-up). Both of these bands' performances were acknowledged by Sam during the show, but neither of these performances are a part of this recording. Recording Details: This recording has been engineered with both fidelity and mp3-player use in mind, that is, the tracks have all been engineered assuming that headphones will be used, and FLAC-formatted files are available. To remind the listener of this, all tracks bear the label "[Engineered For Headphone Use]" as part of their metadata. As with speakers, the better the headphones, the better and more realistic this recording will sound. NOTE: as these are standard two-channel files they are fully compatible with all media players and devices. No additional signals (i.e. no direct signals, board feeds etc) were used to make this recording. File Formats: This show has been written in FLAC format. Other formats are also available (VBR mp3 and Ogg Vorbis) for download from this URL. For optimum fidelity, FLAC is recommended (while the vbr mp3 and ogg vorbis files will be smaller, both are lossy formats; FLAC is 100% lossless and as such, preserves all of the fidelity found in the original wav files). Consult your user guide / manufacturer website for your portable device to see if FLAC is supported by your device. Note that if you download the FLAC version, you may then convert it to another format of your choice (and you will have the added benefit of starting from a fully-restored version of the parent wav file). Consult the web for a list of programs that can convert from FLAC to other formats. Recognition: Special thanks to Sam Roberts, Dave Nugent, Eric Fares, James Hall, and Josh Trager as well as Dave Spencer (Eggplant Entertainment), Denton Fraser, and in particular, to Phil Hornung (FOH Engineer) for his stellar house mix of the show. This recording would not have been possible without their collective and respective enthusiasm, generosity and accomodation.
